Eugene Chadbourne (born January 4, 1954) is an American jazz guitarist and music critic. Chadbourne was born in Mount Vernon, New York, but grew up in Boulder, Colorado. He started playing guitar when he was eleven or twelve, inspired by the Beatles and hoping to get the attention of girls. Although he was drawn to Jimi Hendrix and played in a garage band, he found rock and pop music too conventional. He gravitated to the avant-garde jazz of Anthony Braxton and Derek Bailey.

On his compulsive own, Eugene Chadbourne (previously the guitarist and leader of Shockabilly) has spewed forth a ceaseless stream of records and cassettes (the latter on his own Parachute label) that easily represent the oddest version of country and folk music ever. While the notable left-winger's guitar playing is looser than clams, it harbors wildly unique energy.

Eugene Chadbourne's Chadbourne Baptist Church project took its name from a landmark in Chadbourn, NC. This album was first released in 1992 on Fundamental, with all the pieces lumped into one index track (a mistake). The idea was to hire local musicians in each city visited. Details are not given about who plays on which songs, but the result is surprisingly coherent and entertaining
