Andrzej Wasowski was born in 1919 into Polish nobility, and from an early age, as the phrase goes, piano music was his life. His mother, Princess Maira Glinska Wasowska, taught piano at the Warsaw Conservatory, and her son followed in her footsteps, or perhaps better, pedaling. As a young man Anrzej was taken by the Russians at the outset of the division of Poland and spent the first two years of the war playing concerts. Returning to German occupied Poland - don't ask me how THAT was permitted! - he again began concertizing under the German occupation. Each series is played very well, with minute attention to Chopin's markings. The pianist rarely falls play to mannerisms, employing only a gentle, reserved rubato, largely sounding quite natural.
