Tindersticks frontman Stuart Staples is one such figure for me, a man possessed of one of the most distinctive vocal styles out there, who’s also developed an enveloping lyrical world full of dark yet romantic thoughts. I cannot lie, I knew exactly what I wanted from this second solo album to the extent I’d half imagined the music in my head well before actually pressing play; something not dissimilar to his first solo effort ‘Leaving Songs’, which was a more stripped back and sparse version of his work with the Tindersticks. Well, of course, you have to ask if an artist such as Staples is releasing solo material to achieve that sort of a goal? Surely he’s attempting to perfect his song writing vision with his main gig, the Tindersticks, so it’s far more likely he’s releasing solo material to scratch a very different sort of itch.
Stuart A. Staples releases Arrhythmia on 15 June via City Slang, his first solo album in thirteen years. Arrhythmia is immersive and experimental, both recognisably the work of the Tindersticks’ frontman and simultaneously a stand-alone, unique piece of work. It's a provocative album where electronic experimentations and rare ns interweave, wrapping themselves around unconventional but utterly spellbinding song structures. A year later the entire album was complete, a process which involved Staples struggling between his own free sense of timing and more mechanical rhythms and what he describes as a growing need for each song to take a turn, to lead them into strange places, keeping the feeling or effect of the song, but only as a memory. Stuart Staples worked for a whole year to assemble the parts of this album, without having a direction or without tracing the causes nor the motives behind this cinematic arrhytmia that needs immediatly treatment. Or consider a donation? Track List. Music for a Year in Small Paintings.
Stuart A Staples' new solo album Arrythmia is one of the finest of 2018 thus far. It's four tracks long, the final of which is half hour epic, yet it all holds together perfectly. Opener 'A New Real' takes the Tindersticks' songwriter's songwriting nous and strips it back to a lo-fi, dub-inspired rattle before a an unexpectedly lush chorus rushes in. This rich canopy of moves extends through the record, from the heady and languid 'Memories Of Love' and jazz-flecked 'Step Into The City' to that final track. I Spent a lot of time on trains recently so gave me chance to have a think about it and have tried to choose albums that relate to Arrhythmia, the solo album I have just made.

One More Time" – 3:16. Dance With an Old Man" – 2:09. That Leaving Feeling" – 4:02 (duet with Lhasa). Already Gone" – 3:32. This Old Town" – 4:00
Artist: Stuart A. Staples. Genre: Singer, Songwriter. Stuart A Staples’s tenure as frontman of Tindersticks – the Nottingham band lauded for their forays into swoonsome, often avant-garde indie odysseys, as heard on albums such as the superb Curtains (1997) – has lasted 26 years and counting, but his first solo album since 2006’s Leaving Songs sees him break with tradition. Three tracks comprise the first half of this album, including A New Real, whose scattered, off-kilter rhythm blooms into life with streaks of guitar, and the painstakingly slow-burning Memories of Love
