Past Present is an album by jazz guitarist John Scofield that was recorded in March 2015 and released on September 25, 2015. Scofield is joined by Joe Lovano, Larry Grenadier, and Bill Stewart on saxophone, bass, and drums, respectively. The album earned Scofield a Grammy Award nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Album. The title track also earned Scofield a nomination for Best Improvised Jazz Solo.

After an over 20-year break, Scofield reunited with Lovano and Stewart for 2015's Past Present. Also joining the group this time is longtime Scofield associate bassist Larry Grenadier, who replaces the late Irwin. As with the quartet's previous work, Past Present is a largely acoustic jazz album, with Scofield playing on an amped, semi-hollow-body guitar. Scofield also supplies all of the compositions on Past Present, some of which, poignantly, were inspired by his son Evan Scofield, who died from cancer at age 26 in 2013

Producer – John Scofield. Recorded By, Mixed By – Jay Newland. Tenor Saxophone – Joe Lovano. Written-By – John Scofield. Recorded on March 16 & 17, 2015 at The Carriage House Studios, Stamford, Connecticut.

In fact, it's John Scofield's modesty and humility, a tone in place even as he acted as producer, that elevates not just the playing of those around him, but his own as well. And pithily as he solos-completely in line with the austere graphics of Past Present, including the somber cover portrait-he invariably whets the appetite for more by the time he's finished, as is the case with "Enjoy the Future!" And in doing so, during, for instance, "Museum," he deftly interweaves the staccato attack of a blues guitarist and the fluid approach of a pure jazz player

During the course of his storied career, guitarist/composer John Scofield has never shown much of of a predilection to repeat himself

John Scofield’s latest album Country for Old Men was released September 23, 2016! Country For Old Men is Scofield’s homage to such greats as George Jones, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, James Taylor, and Hank Williams among others. This album has Scofield playing alongside accomplished colleagues Steve Swallow, Larry Goldings and Bill Stewart, and was produced by Scofield himself. Country for old men. Here’s a short film (by Abbott Ziegler Films) from a recent session for my next record Country For Old Men.

Only 10 left in stock (more on the way). Past Present also highlights Scofields love for country music on the whimsical Chap Dance, which evokes both the wide-eyed Americana compositions of Aaron Copeland and the hoedown sophistication of Ornette Colemans harmolodics. Scofield says that the songs exuberant opening melody and spry rhythmic pulse remind him of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammersteins 1943 Broadway musical, Oklahoma!, particularly the scenes with the cowboys dancing in chaps and vests.
