John Coltrane - The Impulse Story album flac

This article presents the discography of the jazz saxophonist and band leader John Coltrane (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967). Coltrane participated in his first recording sessions while enlisted in the Navy from August 6, 1945, to August 11, 1946. He performed eight numbers in a pickup band that included trumpeter Dexter Culbertson. These were private recordings not made for official release.

Coltrane is a 1962 studio album by jazz saxophonist John Coltrane. When reissued on CD, it featured a Coltrane composition dedicated to his hero "Big Nick" Nicholas which Coltrane would record later the same year with his Ellington collaboration Duke Ellington & John Coltrane. The composition "Tunji" was written by Coltrane in dedication to the Nigerian drummer, Babatunde Olatunji.

The Impulse Story cherry picks seven tracks recorded between '68 and '72, Coltrane's purple period, proceeding chronologically and dipping into key albums: John & Alice Coltrane: Cosmic Music, A Monastic Trio, Huntington Ashram Monastery, Ptah The El Daoud, Journey In Satchidananda, Universal Consciousness and Lord Of Lords. The only important album of the period which is omitted is '71's Alice Coltrane With Strings: World Galaxy.
