The Sensual World is the sixth studio album by the English singer-songwriter Kate Bush. It was released in October 1989 and peaked at no. 2 on the UK Albums Chart. It has been certified Platinum by the BPI for sales of 300,000 in the UK, and Gold by the RIAA in the US. Bush drew inspiration for the title track from the novel Ulysses by James Joyce. Bush realised that Molly Bloom's soliloquy, the closing passage of the novel, fit the music she had created
The Sensual World" is a song by the English singer Kate Bush. It was the title track and first single from her album of the same name, released in September 1989. The single entered and peaked at n. 2 in the UK single charts. The song was later re-recorded using only words taken from Molly Bloom's soliloquy from James Joyce's Ulysses, as Bush had originally intended whilst recording The Sensual World album. This version, re-titled "Flower of the Mountain" appears on the 2011 album Director's Cut.
Never did Kate Bush sound more grounded, more in control of her songwriting than on her sixth album from 1989, featuring stories that play out like intimate vignettes rather than fantastical fairy tales. It does make you feel differently. The Sensual World is not a work of po-faced realism or post-Neverland dowdiness. Bush sings about falling in love with a computer, dressing up as a firework, and dancing with a dictator. She’s still in thrall to love, lust, loneliness, passion, pain, and pleasure.
The Sensual World is a the title track and lead single by the English singer Kate Bush from her 1989 album of the same name. The single entered and peaked at Number 12 in the UK single charts. Inspired by Molly Bloom stepping out of the black and white, two-dimensional pages of James Joyce’s Ulysses into the real world, it depicts how Bloom was immediately struck by the sensuality of it all. Originally supposed to quote Molly Bloom’s ending soliloquy set to music, but Bush could not secure the rights from the Joyce estate, so she altered it. This issue was then resolved for the re-recording.

Sixth album by Kate Bush, released by EMI Records on 16 October 1989. The album was written, composed and produced by Kate. As with Hounds of Love, the album was recorded mainly in Kate's home studio, after it was upgraded, adding an SSL console. Kate said she felt "overwhelmed by the amount of equipment aroud me. It was quite stifling, and I made a conscious effort to move away from that, and treat the song as the song. Del Palmer was her principal engineer, and they often worked together on the new album, with Haydn Bertall appearing now and again. In 2010, Audio Fidelity released 'The Sensual World' on vinyl with new remastering by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray. In 2011, the album was first released on the Fish People label. Chris Roberts in Melody Maker wrote
An enchanting songstress, Kate Bush reflects the most heavenly views of love on the aptly titled The Sensual World. The follow-up to Hounds of Love features Bush unafraid to be a temptress, vocally and lyrically. She's a romantic, frolicking over lust and love, but also a lover of life and its spirituality. The album's title track exudes the most sensually abrasive side of Bush, but she is also one to remain emotionally intact with her heart and head. The majority of The Sensual World beams with a carefree spirit of strength and independence.
1989's Sensual World remains Kate Bush's most mature, entrancing album. Expectations ran high for the long-awaited follow-up to her 1986 breakthrough The Hounds of Love, and she met them with this sometimes breathtaking, often introspective work. On songs like the erotic title track and the dramatic "Love and Anger," Bush charts the many rhythms of relationships with a keen eye for detail and less frilly bluster than usual. The Sensual World is a music studio album recording by KATE BUSH (Crossover Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1989 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Aerial makes return into that kind of album structure - I'm yet to hear it). I still remember when I bought Sensual World in the autumn '89 - there aren't very many albums I've bought at once, freshly released. Still its listening takes me back to dark and starry November nights, and in a way it still has a feel of 'the new Kate Bush album' to me, as opposed to diving into already existing marvelous output couple of years earlier. A disappointment? No!
