Kinks is the self-titled debut album by English rock band The Kinks, released in 1964. It was released with three tracks omitted as You Really Got Me in the United States. The album was re-released in 1998 in the UK on Castle Records with twelve bonus tracks. This reissue was itself reissued in 2004 on the Sanctuary label.

The Kinks retreat to the English countryside, which turns out to be just as twisted and frightening as the city. While other bands were getting far out, man, the Kinks were singing pastoral reveries like Animal Farm. Big Sky is an unsentimental ode to a Mother Nature who doesn’t care if you live or die; Picture Book is the best photo-album song of the pre-Taylor Swift era, except it’s a cheerful ditty about how we all grow old and die alone  . The band had no idea this album got released until they noticed it was in the Billboard charts and sued to get it pulled. Typical Kinks-even when they fluked into a hit, it meant something was wrong.

The Kinks, formed by brothers Ray Davies and Dave Davies back in 1963, are reforming and releasing a new album, and going on tour. This time we met in his manager's office in Mayfair, the original Kinks had gone and the new band was emerging and future photo shoots were done in the ’Pub’.
