Another Mind begins a trio of fantastic albums by Hiromi and her crew. Lots of texture, loads of brilliance. I feel like Hiromi is just showing off some of the time, but it's charming rather than gratuitous. Brilliant drums and bass are a treat. Get these releases on SACD whilst possible. Hiromi and her group are so good I somtimes forget that this is mostly just a trio playing. What makes this album even more amazing is the fact that the entire album was recorded in the studio "live" without any overdubs. After all's been said, however, this is not light n cheesy listening for the casual listener, but If you're willing to open your mind, do yourself a favor and check it out - "Another Mind" will not fail to blow yours away. 6 people found this helpful.

Hiromi Uehara (上原 ひろみ, born 26 March 1979), known professionally as Hiromi, is a jazz composer and pianist born in Hamamatsu, Japan. She is known for her virtuosic technique, energetic live performances and blend of musical genres such as post-bop, progressive rock, classical and fusion in her compositions. Hiromi started learning classical piano at age of six, and was later introduced to jazz by her piano teacher Noriko Hikida. At 14, she played with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra
Listen free to Hiromi – Another Mind (XYZ, Double Personality and more). On the back of the CD case is a photo that is basically a heads-up as to what you can expect from this debut album by 23-year-old jazz pianist Hiromi Uehara. She is standing outside wearing a black dress and a strange yellow-and-white wrap. Her face is turned up to the sky, her eyes and mouth closed, her jaw clenched; her arms are held straight down by her sides with her fingers splayed wide. It's a stance that bespeaks intense energy and a certain defiance
Released 22 April 2003. Surrounding herself with a cast of young, gifted musicians (and a slightly older one in the shape of the great bassist Anthony Jackson), 24 year old Hiromi Uehara's music is audacious, hyperactive stuff. Sticking mainly to acoustic piano, her approach is reminiscent of Oscar Peterson on steroids. Few of the instrument's 88 keys remain untouched for long.

Only for completionists (4%). featuring the amazing talent of Hiromi supported by one of the greatest rhythm sections that i've ever heard (congrats to Cohn and DiCenso). This album is very good. A great debut from Hiromi.
Hiromi Uehara first mesmerized the jazz community with her 2003 Telarc debut, Another Mind ative Japan, where Another Mind shipped gold (100,000 units) and received the Recording Industry Association of Japan’s (RIAJ) Jazz Album of the Year Award.
