For their fifth album, End of the Century, The Ramones attempted to rectify this discrepancy. The punk band hired Phil Spector to produce a pop album. However, the experience turned out to be regrettable on many levels. The album took forever to start because Phil wouldn’t even tell us where we were recording. Then finally, he gave us a list of three studios, all within 50 miles of each other and said, Call this one every day at a certain hour and that way you’ll be able to know where we’re going to record. That’s how paranoid he was. He rented three studios and paid for them all-had them open sessions that he booked weeks before. I mean, when he went outta the house it was all a big strategy of how he was armed, and what his security was.
Between 1993 and 2000, a series of Ramones covers albums were released by Selfless Records (later Clearview Records), an independent record label based in Garland, Texas specializing in punk rock, on which bands influenced by seminal punk group the Ramones performed cover versions of entire Ramones albums.
Even so, End of the Century is more enjoyable than its predecessor, since the record has stronger material, and in retrospect, it's one of their better records of the '80s.
Written-By – Ramones (tracks: A1 to A6, B2 to B6). Notes.

Danny Says" is a ballad written by Joey Ramone. The song was originally released as the third track on the Ramones' 1980 album, End of the Century. The song has since been covered and released by the Foo Fighters and Tom Waits.
When the Ramones released their first album in 1976, corporate American radio reacted as if someone had belched at a board meeting. In a way, this response was entirely appropriate: after all, it was the Ramones’ utter contempt for mid-Seventies superstar-saturated radio that had compelled these self-styled oddballs from Queens to pick up their instruments in the first place. The good news is that End of the Century is the most commercially credible album the Ramones have ever made. And they did it without compromising their very real artistic premises. This LP is also Phil Spector’s finest and most mature effort in years, undoubtedly his most restrained production since his work with John Lennon in the early Seventies. Surprisingly, End of the Century doesn’t sound like the end of the world overdubbed on twenty-four tracks in some airless Los Angeles studio.
