Helmuth Rilling (born 29 May 1933 in Stuttgart) is a German choral conductor and an academic teacher. He is the founder of the Gächinger Kantorei (1954), the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart (1965), the Oregon Bach Festival (1970), the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart (1981) and other Bach Academies worldwide, as well as the "Festival Ensemble Stuttgart" (2001) and the "Junges Stuttgarter Bach Ensemble" (2011)

Gächinger Kantorei (Gächingen Chorale) is an internationally known German mixed choir, founded by Helmuth Rilling in 1954 in Gächingen (part of St. Johann close to Reutlingen) and conducted by him until 2013, succeeded by Hans-Christoph Rademann. A "Kantorei" is a choir of high standard dedicated mostly, but not exclusively, to sacred music. The ensemble operates in Stuttgart now and is therefore officially named Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart

Heinrich Schütz: Italienische Madrigale. Heinrich Schütz's Italian madrigals might be thought of as his dissertation work, composed in 1611 and presented to his patron, the Landgrave of Hesse, who had sent him to Italy on a scholarship for study with Giovanni Gabrieli. They had an effect far beyond their immediate purpose, serving to introduce a newly expressive Italian spirit into German music and thus kicking off a trend that would endure for two centuries.
