Sick Scenes is the sixth studio album by Welsh rock band Los Campesinos!. The album was released on 24 February 2017 by Wichita Recordings. The album was produced by John Goodmanson and the band's guitarist Tom Campesinos! at a studio in the Fridão parish of Amarante, Portugal. It is the band's first album to feature bassist Matt Campesinos!, who joined the group in 2014.

One could be excused for wondering why Los Campesinos! are still making records at this late date. When they burst onto the scene in 2007 with a bracing batch of singles - that sounded like it took the studio engineer's intense concentration to corral the unbridled excitement and frantic energy that came flying off the band like a technicolor rain shower - they seemed destined to burn brightly for a little while, then burst

Sick Scenes is an emotional melting pot of joy, regret and rage against the passage of time. But as heavy as that sounds, Los Campesinos! has never sounded lighter on its feet. With some of their catchiest songs yet and Gareth's muse in top form, this album stands among their strongest work. To be honest, the replay value on Los Campesinos! Sick Scenes isn’t all that great, but everyone could use an upbeat rock album to enhance their day just that extra bit. Score: . /10.

Los Campesinos! stay true to brand on Sick Scenes. Their lyrics are poignant and complex, and every track-including the slower tunes-is remarkably catchy. They sound ironic (but very much aren’t), and they maintain a balanced, stagnant sadness while refraining from the feeling of hurtling towards certain doom. Some context: The Welsh band formulated, wrote and recorded the album during the UK’s vote to leave the European Union-aka Brexit. I personally have not the word count nor the nuanced understanding of British politics necessary to discuss everything that LC! are doing on Sick Scenes. But here’s what this album says on a broader level: Don’t worry, the surge of anxiety you feel in your public and private spheres is perfectly normal. Have no guilt over that.

Sick Scenes, the British group’s sixth album, plays like a love letter to aging indie idealism; to the fans who have reveled in this band’s careening pop-punk singalongs, scathing neuroses, and charmingly specific soccer references.
