The Belle Album is the 12th studio album by soul musician Al Green. It is his first album recorded without longtime producer Willie Mitchell, owner of Green's former label, Hi Records. With Mitchell and his label Green also abandoned the famed Hi Rhythm Section, which had previously played a large part in defining Green's distinctive musical style. This also marks the first instance in which Green plays lead guitar on his records.

The Belle Album is a celebration of something new. A new Al Green. For the first time in his seven years as a singer, Al is writing all his own songs, producing them in his own Memphis studio, and acting as his own lead guitarist. Al says he wants his new music to "make you shout for joy" and if you can sit still when the new Al Green hits your turntable, you'd better check to see if you're still alive. While so much soul music derived its power from its compact structure - and Green’s hits are a perfect manifestation of this - Green knew how to expand on a basic groove and make it something equally hypnotic while consistently shifting the dynamics. He would never go for the full-on epic style of Isaac Hayes or Barry White - or their lulling rhythms, but he would find ways to use his voice for terrific effect. It often isn’t the words that matter but the way his voice skates over the flow.
