Both artists focus on electronic sounds in a selection of succinct, direct pieces, free of musical garrulousness. Cole neither sings nor plays guitar and Roedelius rarely touches the keys of his grand piano. Instead, both musicians have developed a subtle soundscape which only drifts towards pure noise on one track, Wandelbar. All of the other studies on the album move within a vast spectrum of harmonic wonder and rhythmic.

Selected Studies, Vol. "Please retry". A bit of a weird combo at first glance but this is a truly beautiful album. Dont expect any vocals from Mr Cole, this is purely electronic, a bit like a trip down a river on a raft, something surprising around every turn. A superb recording from two quite diverse artists, who seem to meld together perfectly.

Selected Studies Vol. One is an interesting pairing of two seemingly dissimilar minds coming together and making what can be called performance ar. You see, Cole has actually dabbled in electronica, most notably with his 2001 album Plastic Wood. It turns out a friend of Cole’s who knew Roedelius sent the latter a copy of the record, and Roedelius was so smitten by the release that he produced a sort of remix version of the album consisting of overdubs to the existing tracks. Cole wound up hearing the results, and was reportedly flattered, but felt that Plastic Wood had run its course, so the idea of a proper Roedelius remix of the album was shelved.
