Wheels of Fire is the third album by the British rock band Cream. It was released in August 1968 as a two-disc vinyl LP, with one disc recorded in the studio and the other recorded live. It reached number three in the United Kingdom and number one in the United States, becoming the world's first platinum-selling double album. In May 2012, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 205 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

If Disraeli Gears was the album where Cream came into their own, its successor, Wheels of Fire, finds the trio in full fight, capturing every side of their multi-faceted personality, even hinting at the internal pressures that soon would tear the band asunder.

Their latest recording, Wheels of Fire, a two-record set inside a silver jacket, proves all this. One record is subtitled In the Studio. It’s nice, but not what you want to get the album for. The trumpet solos spoil whatever mood was trying to be evoked by their superfluous ness and obviousness. It is unfortunate that the group chose to do Born Under a Bad Sign, that fine blues that Booker T. Jones wrote for Albert King.

Wheels of Fire' climbed to No. 1, making it Cream's only chart-topping album. White Room' and 'Crossroads' were both released as singles, with the former making it all the way to No. 6 ('Sunshine of Your Love,' the band's only other Top 10 song, reached No. 5). But the album's legacy stretches further than that
