Out of the Blues is the nineteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Boz Scaggs. The album, a mixture of vintage classics and four original compositions by close friend Jack "Applejack" Walroth, is the last in a trilogy that began with 2013's Memphis and continued with 2015's A Fool to Care. The album contains covers of songs by blues musicians including Bobby "Blue" Bland, Jimmy Reed, Magic Sam, and Neil Young. It was released on July 27, 2018, on Concord Records

This set looks back to his 1965 debut album Boz (a solo acoustic covers set released only in Sweden by Polydor) and 1997's criminally overlooked Come on Home, a woolly, house-rocking collection of (mostly) vintage R&B and soul-blues covers, for its foundation.

Scaggs & Band (Columbia, 1971). In recent years, Scaggs has revisited the roots he began to nurture living in Texas as a child and, accordingly, Out Of The Blues is the final instalment of an unofficial trilogy, including Memphis (429 Records, 2013) and A Fool to Care (429 Records?, 2015). Here Boz and his pedigree accompanists stylishly interweave songs recorded by Bobby Blue Bland, Magic Sam, and Jimmy Reed, with originals that Boz co-wrote with longtime San Francisco bluesman/eccentric Jack Walroth, plus a surprising take on Neil Young's "On The Beach. This combustible mix of material reaffirms a common thread connecting this album with those aforementioned releases-the form of authentic blues is less crucial than the feel. Which is why the Canadian's song, at once doleful and quietly optimistic, so vividly echoes the range of emotion that dominates the genre.

The adventure began in 2012 when he traveled to Memphis with producer friend Steve Jordan to tap into that city's rich soul heritage. The purpose of the album was simply to play music we both found particularly interesting," Scaggs recalls. We wanted to sort of dig into ourselves

Boz Scaggs will complete a "so-called trilogy" of albums exploring his musical roots with the July 27 release of Out Of The Blues - whose opening track, "Rock and Stick," is premiering below. That song in particular always intrigued me because of the lyric," explains Scaggs, who co-wrote the track "Little Miss Night and Day" with Walroth for the album. I had the song musically in my head for some time and I actually sung it myself years ago on a demo. It's a regular 12-bar, bluesy kind of format that's got a little reggae thing to it that makes it unique.

Atlantic Records signed Boz Scaggs in 1968 and released his self titled debut. The album featured guitarist Duane Allman and The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Included were his versions of I’ll Be Long Gone and Loan Me A Dime and they received a considerable amount of airplay on FM radio. Scaggs signed with Columbia Records in 1971 and released Moments. The single off that album was We Were Always Sweethearts. Out Of The Blues is a winner.

Out Of The Blues, which was self-produced by Boz Scaggs, is the 19th studio album from the Ohio-birthed musician. Boz laid down the music found on the LP at Sunset Sound Studios with a batch of contributors that included legendary session drummer Jim Keltner, guitarists Doyle Bramhall II, Ray Parker Jr. and Charlie Sexton, bassist Willie Weeks and keyboardist Jim Cox. Scaggs tapped longtime collaborator Jack Walroth to pen four of the tunes found on the record
