referencing Nashville Underground, LP, Album, LSP-3978. Only his second album, but already Jerry Reed was settling into the groove that made him famous: easy-rollin' country with a rock undercurrent, painted with the splash of wacky humor that became his signature. All but the last 3 songs are originals, and they're winners in a laid-back, slice of life gs-that-matter Bobby Russel sort of way. Recorded in Nashville with Chet Atkins at the mixing console, it's a great harbinger of the unstoppable force that Reed would become in just a couple of years.
Nashville Underground goes even further in a country-pop direction than its predecessor, The Unbelievable Guitar & Voice, with only the riotous "Tupelo Mississippi Flash" coming close to the wild swing that is Reed's trademark. The rest of the record is devoted to highly polished, exquisitely produced country-pop, much of it written by Jerry himself, who is game to croon ballads like "Remembering" or to take a breezy summertime stroll on "A Thing Called Love.
