Spring Hill Fair was The Go-Betweens' third album released 27 September 1984 in the UK on Sire Records. The LP was recorded during a "very wet May" at Studio Miraval in Le Val, France. Prior to the recording of the album, bass player Robert Vickers had joined the group, enabling Grant McLennan to move to lead guitar. The original release consisted of ten songs. In 2002, Circus released an expanded CD which included a second disc of ten bonus tracks and a music video for the song, "Bachelor Kisses".

The Go-Betweens were one of the most internationally influential indie rock bands from Australia, formed by guitarists Robert Forster (b. 1957) and Grant McLennan (1958-2006) in Brisbane in 1977. After disbanding in 1989, Forster and McLennan reformed the band in 2000 with a new line-up, however, they disbanded for good after McLennan died on May 6, 2006 of a heart attack.
The earliest Go-Betweens recordings reveal the band’s simpler, shambolic pop aesthetic rather than the sophisticated sound for which they became renowned. The 1978 single Lee Remick was a bouncy, light-hearted love letter to the actor that’s as poppy as it is punk, but offered an early showcase for the Go-Betweens’ knack for melody. Part Company – from the band’s third album, Spring Hill Fair – displays the more mature style that Forster and McLennan were aiming for. It exhibits so many prevailing Go-Betweens qualities in one song: strong, literate lyrics that are never self-indulgent, arrangements that are filled with occasional subtle tweaks – such as the nervous hum of the keyboard low in the mix – and Morrison’s drums: simple, but effective.
Produced by John Brand. Album Spring Hill Fair. Come and have a look, beside me A fine line of tears, part company That's her handwriting, that's the way she writes From the first letter I got to this her Bill of Rights, part company. And what will I miss? Her cruelty, her unfaithfulness Her fun, her love, her kiss, part company. That's her handwriting, that's the way she writes Like mud in the September rain it comes, back to me. Part, part, I said part Part company, made he men disappear Cut my swathe and spread my fear. Spring Hill Fair The Go-Betweens.
