The Slider exudes confidence to the point of becoming delirious and drunk on Bolan’s own self-regard, careening between bawdy, brash Little Richard lop-bam-booms, weirdo machismo rock, and ethereal acoustic ballads, while line by line Bolan toggles between profundity and inanity, melancholia and nonsense. Metal Guru opens the album with a gush of guitar and Bolan’s mawkish cry, Mwah-ahah-yeeeah. It’s a victory lap as introduction and celebratory whoop-along. While responsible for the birth of glam in the UK, Reynolds argues that T. Rex was too quicksilver for a rock legacy. So while Ziggy Stardust tells a fairly coherent story and ascended into classic album status, The Slider forever eludes our grasp. By keeping their mystery intact, Bolan’s songs emulate his forebears best, whether it’s wondering where the wang dang doodle is at or what a Jabberwocky is.
Rex is the fifth studio album by English rock band T. Rex and the first released under that name since changing their name from Tyrannosaurus Rex. It was released on 18 December 1970 by record labels Fly and Reprise. The album marked a further shift from the band's previous folk style to a minimal rock sound.

Lyrically, Bolan's flair for the sublimely ridiculous is fully intact, but he has way too much style for The Slider to sound truly stupid, especially given the playful, knowing wink in his delivery. It's nearly impossible not to get caught up in the irresistible rush of melodies and cheery good times. Even if it treads largely the same ground as Electric Warrior, The Slider is flawlessly executed, and every bit the classic that its predecessor is. Track Listing.
Released 21st July 1972. This is my favourite T-Rex album. Even though glam rock appears to be a dated concept, to me T-Rex albums sound as fresh, new and exciting as the day they were recorded. I like every song on the album, but my favourites are Spaceball Ricochet, Metal Guru, Ballrooms Of Mars, The Slider, Telegram Sam, Cadillac and Baby Strange. The Slider was re-released this year.

The Slider received acclaim from critics, and reached number 4 in the UK charts and number 17 in the US. Stephen M. Deusner (Pitchfork) gave the album a . /10 grade, the highest given to any T. Rex album, and wrote: At the peak of his rock superstardom, Bolan was also at the top of his game, and The Slider is his ecstatic ode both to himself and to music in general.
