The Cool Death of Island Raiders is the fifth studio album by the American garage rock band Thee Oh Sees, released on March 7, 2006 on Narnack Records. Co-produced by TV on the Radio members Dave Sitek and Kyp Malone, the album was released under the names, The Ohsees and The Oh Sees, and is the first studio album to feature backing vocalist and future keyboardist Brigid Dawson. The album features mostly freak folk songs, alongside experimental drone compositions.

A new studio album, however, entitled Drop, was released in 2014, and Oh Sees subsequently toured as a three-piece, with Sic Alps bassist Tim Hellman and White Fence drummer Nick Murray replacing Dawson, Dammit!, and Shoun. As a trio, the band released The Cool Death of Island Raiders in 2006, their first release under the name The OhSees. The album was co-produced by TV on the Radio members Dave Sitek and Kyp Malone. Petey Dammit! joined the group in 2007, as a bassist and occasionally second guitarist. Dammit was previously a member of the two-piece band Tres Ferocious. John Dwyer was familiar with the band's work, and asked him to join when he was looking to expand the lineup of The Ohsees

Following last year’s Cool Death of Island Raiders, it looks like John Dwyer and his Oh Sees outfit have adjusted to the afterlife quite well. hey’ve taken this opportunity to tone it down a bit, settling into something resembling folk music for ghosts

I only ever buy black vinyl of Castle Face releases now, superior sound and quality all round after experiencing problems in the past with their prettier to look at variants. With this one my local store actually gave me a blue one in error (they said it was black), gave it a quick spin before returning it and it was full of crackle. The black is smooth and richer and comes in thick anti static poly inner as well, whereas the blue only had a paper inner. Quality reissue and remaster.

The black vinyl club is the place to be amigo. I used to get sucked into the whole colour vinyl thing but have been swapping out my (Thee) Oh Sees stuff for black now, except for the likes of An Odd Entrances where the colour came with a flexi. Anything new I always buy black these days. The reissue of Hounds Of Foggy Notion also comes with the poly inner with the black but only a paper one with the colour. Makes it feel a better issue to me.

I ordered an Oh Sees record form Castle Face a few years ago and purposely ordered the black version. Since I ordered it as soon as it went on sale I received a colored version. I guess they just assumed all the early pre-orders want the color version. I agree. The pressing sounds so much better and like you said is in the nice anti-static poly sleeve. That’s why I was thinking it was pressed at RTI.

I ordered mine from Amazon. I received a black vinyl version. The pressing is actually as close to perfect as you can get. It looks like it may have been pressed at RTI but I guess it's GZ Media. I've never had good luck with their pressings but this one is nice. It's cool to hear how much their sound (John's) has changed in such a short amount of time. He's a musical genius.

Always go black with Castle Face......had an email chat with Matt from the label about it once and he admitted that black is better sound wise.
