Martin Denny chronology. Exotica Volume IIString Module Error: Match not foundString Module Error: Match not found. Exotica is the first album by Martin Denny, released in 1957. It contained Denny's most famous song, "Quiet Village", and spawned an entire genre bearing its name. It was recorded in Webley Edwards' studio (not, as often reported, the Aluminum Dome at Henry J. Kaiser's Hawaiian Village Complex) in Waikiki in December 1956 The original album was recorded in mono. It was re-recorded in stereo in 1958; by then, however, Denny's popular sideman Arthur Lyman had left the group, and was replaced by Julius Wechter

Martin Denny (born April 10, 1911 in New York City, NY, United States - died March 2, 2005 in Honolulu, Hawaii) was an American musician. He was universally known as the founder and reigning king of exotica music, a type of big band music with Latin rhythms and overtones of Pacific Ocean culture that is largely scorned by critics but was extremely popular in the 1950s and 1960s.

Exotica/Exotica Volume 2. Martin Denny. Love it when they release two albums on one CD. This is a bargain! Martin Denny certainly knows how to deliver the goods - and he does here - twice. The album opens with a gorgeous take of Les Baxter’s Jungle River Boat. Baxter’s orchestra string-fueled compositions do not necessarily keep all of their magic during their Jazz quartet-friendly transformation process, but what they lose in density and Space-Age vigor, they gain in exoticism. Martin Denny’s rendition is a delight, much gentler and somehow closer to the depicted scenery
