The Chocolate Watchband is an American garage rock band that formed in 1965 in Los Altos, California. The band went through several lineup changes during its existence. Combining psychedelic and garage rock components, their sound was marked by David Aguilar's lead vocals, songwriting, as well as proto-punk musical arrangements. The band's rebellious musical posture made them one of the harder-edged groups of the period with many critics labeling them as America's answer to the Rolling Stones.

The original Chocolate Watchband was formed in the autumn of 1965 at Foothill College on the San Francisco peninsula, with a six-man line-up that featured guitarist Mark Loomis and drummer Gary Andrijasevich. Playing the R&B and folk rock of the day, the outfit did some recording, but outside of their unusual name, made little impression beyond local gigs in the San Jose area

The Chocolate Watchband only recorded three albums in their short lifetime. Unfortunately none of those records was recorded in its entirety by the core line up of Dave Aguilar, Sean Tolby, Bill Flores, Mark Loomis and Gary Andrijasevich. Instead producer Ed Cobb used a combination of friends and session musicians to fill out their records. The Chocolate Watchband were one of the sixties biggest ve-been bands. Perfectly programmed, Forty Four lays out their legacy for you, and deserves to sit alongside Safe As Milk, Teenage Head and High Time.

The only compilation by the Chocolate Watchband to contain just material recorded by the band and not session guys. Far out man - the Watch Band on CD. One of our best selling 60s rock items goes digital with the '44' album from one of the grooviest acid rock bands of the late 60s. Recorded between 1966 and 1968 all of the tracks were actually recorded by the group as opposed to the many sides issued under their name, but cut by session players.
