A folkie for the electronica age, Beth Orton brilliantly bridges the gap between acoustic songcraft and digital dance beats with her extraordinary debut album, Trailer Park. Fusing the plaintive emotional power of the singer/songwriter tradition with the distanced cool of trip-hop rhythms, Orton creates a fresh, distinct, and surprisingly organic sound without obvious precedent; blessed with a warm, ethereal voice capable of adapting comfortably to Spartan folk ("Whenever," a touching cover of the rry-penned "I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine".

As she reissues her debut album Trailer Park, Beth Orton tells the Quietus how asking William Orbit for a cigarette changed her life. Interview by Luke Turner. Looking back, I was quite a force to be reckoned with, there's no denying it, and I'm not being arrogant saying that, but I was a character. So anyway a lot of these songs were the Trailer Park songs, like 'Sugar Boy', 'Someone's Daughter'. And I thought well if I really am a singer I must get my own band together and create my own sound. I must create my own thing and do it, only then will I prove it.

Trailer Park Tracklist. She Cries Your Name Lyrics.

Believe it or not, Beth Orton originally wanted to name this album Winnebago, but of course, rights issues quickly squashed that idea. I had all these odd, rather desperate people coming up and giving me their entire life-stories in a second.

BETH ORTON Trailer Park (1996 UK 10-track CD album her debut solo album including the singles She Cries Your Name Touch Me With Your Love & Someones Daughter comes with the fold-out picture sleeve inlay HVNLP17CD). Over ten years after its release, Beth Orton's mixture of folk and digital jiggery pokery sounds remarkably prescient, especially considering how common this now is, both within and outside the community. Trailer Park remains a classic of its type that has dated less than you may assume.

Plain Recording pressings :They look ( and sound ) like DUM DUM INDIA in the sixties !It's just plain simple policy : CASHIN' IN / or ( still better ) " RIPPIN' THE PEOPLE OFF ".

Listening to a deep house single by the band Deep Dish, i flipped it over and was surprised to find the B-side of Trailer Park, great result.

Thought I'd take a chance - too bad, it sucks. Music is great but hollow and without soul in this pressing. The clicks and pops and general noise is depressing. Combined with the lifeless sound it's a big POS fail. Plain Recordings should be ashamed.

It's a good album. I picked it up for $1 at the Goodwill bins years ago and I like her Jack Purcell shoes.
Dreladred
Get the original Heavenly, it's perfect... I got lucky got mine for $10 on ebay last year!

My copy arrived today - In addition to the purchase price, the cost of shipping and paying the import taxes, I've spent about £30 (about $35), and it's really not worth it. I'm delighted to own a copy of this on vinyl, but I've bought bootlegs that had less surface noise. I spent 15 minutes after opening the record, cleaning the crap off the vinyl before playing it, and it still sounds like something 30 years old. The vocals are okay, but there's little to no bass, and the noise in quiet parts is annoying me now. Buy this if you want to have the spine in your record collection, otherwise (and I can't believe I'm typing this) stick with the MP3 (just did a track by track comparison - and it sounds better).

I was all set to buy this till I noticed it's a Plain Recordings pressing. Can anyone tell me - is it OK?
Pooker
Shit pressing, full of surface noise and non-fill. Standard operating procedure for the abysmal Plain Recordings. Only suckers buy this crap.
Bys
People talking about the reissue vinyl being awful, I can say because I own the original, the original HEAVENLY vinyl pressing is fantastic.
Malara
Wish I had read the previous comment before buying this album. Bought the CD when it first came out. This is LP is flatlined. There is absolutely no life to the pressing whatsoever. It pales in comparison to the CD and my MP3 of the album is of far better quality. If anything this album serves as a perfect lesson on the importance of provenance I guess. This is a great album but horrible pressing. Not even worth as a used vinyl copy, since there is little joy in listening to it. Get the CD.

One of the sold versions says in the description "without printed inner sleeve", did this even come with a printed inner sleeve??
Nalmergas
My copy came with an inner sleeve. This has credits on one side and a photo strip on the other.

Absolutely terrible. Do not buy this pressing. Plain did what they do best and clearly mastered this off a CD. I will never buy anything from this label ever again. I think I may have even bought this from MusicDirect. Shocking that they carry any of Plain's garbage. That being said, I (unfortunately) own some other Plain reissues that aren't terrible. Not good either, but listenable. This album literally has no bass. It's a disgrace.
