B 7 8 Charles Ives hat viele unvergessliche Werke geschrieben, doch die ersten Kompositionen von ihm, die ich jemals hrte, waren seine en Sonaten fr Violine und Klavier. Die Art und Weise, wie hier Melodien (einige davon sehr populr, andere weniger bekannt) mit berraschenden Harmonien und rhythmischen Motiven gekoppelt werden, faszinierte mich. Die vier Violinsonaten sind typisch fr Ives beraus originellen und mitreienden Stil. Zur Zeit ihrer Entstehung praktisch unbekannt, werden sie heute zusammen mit Werken von Beethoven, Franck oder Schumann aufgefhrt. Und egal, in welchem Kontext sie auch erklingt, diese Musik wirkt nach wie vor neu und erfrischend.
