Perelman, trim and well-tailored, is of medium build. His hair is gently receding, and graying at the temples. Well, it was really an oversight of my own. I was so exalted at being collected for the first time that, in correcting the galleys, I completely overlooked the fact that there was no author’s name on the title page. Unless one happened to look at the spine of the book, there would be every implication that it was written by its publisher, Horace Liveright. Do you look back on your work with pleasure? How long is it since you’ve reexamined Dawn Ginsbergh’s Revenge? PERELMAN. I haven’t actually looked on it for some time

Before they made S. Perelman, they broke the mold. It's almost an exact duplicate of The Most of S J Perelman. Whoever put it together just left out The Acres and Pains items. How can they put this on the market as a new book.

The Road to Miltown; or, Under the Spreading Atrophy 1957. The Most of S. Perelman 1958. S. Perelman has an eighty-acre farm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania (where the house is "shingled with secondhand wattles"), a Greenwich Village apartment, and a no-nonsense, one-room office, also in the Village. It was there that the interview took place. The office is furnished like a slightly luxuriant monk's cell: a few simple chairs, a desk, a cot.

Perelman established himself as a writer of short stories and satires. He got his big break when he wrote a drama based on the book, ‘Walk A Little Faster’. He later started co-writing with his wife, Laura, and the duo scripted few of the best dramas of that time. All Good Americans’, ‘One Touch Of Venus’ and ‘The Beauty Part’ are a few of the plays written by him amongst various others. Perelman was also a successful screenwriter and his first movie as a screenwriter was, ‘Monkey Business’. The movie ‘Around the World In 8 Days’ earned him an ‘Academy Award’ for the best screenplay. Perelman is known to have expressed his views and thoughts on issues close to his heart in a witty and humorous manner

I wish I had friends that wrote like Perelman but understanding that it was Harpo, not Groucho that was the darling of the Algonquin Roundtable - maybe it's better to just hang with my beer-drinking pals. They don't ask to borrow my books afterall. Jun 24, 2014 Kevin Cole rated it liked it. . Perelman is like a disease: He will attack without hesitation and with a single-mindedness that can throw you for a loop. Sidney Joseph Perelman, almost always known as S. Perelman, was a Jewish-American humorist, author, and screenwriter. He is best known for his humorous short pieces written over many years for The New Yorker.
