The Jungle Book (1894) is a collection of stories by the English author Rudyard Kipling. Most of the characters are animals such as Shere Khan the tiger and Baloo the bear, though a principal character is the boy or "man-cub" Mowgli, who is raised in the jungle by wolves. The stories are set in a forest in India; one place mentioned repeatedly is "Seonee" (Seoni), in the central state of Madhya Pradesh.

Jim Weiss is an award-winning storyteller who established his production company, Greathall Productions in 1989. His recordings feature storytellings from classical literature, and history. While reading a book and listening to an audio recording are different forms of entertainment and learning, studies show they reinforce one another. At the end of the most recordings, Jim says, If you liked this story, get the book at a library or bookstore and read it for yourself. While Greathall recordings are never meant to take the place of reading, for children who can’t or won’t read the classics, listening to a Greathall recording ensures comprehension, appreciation, and involvement.
Our family loves Jim Weiss already so I'm admittedly biased, but this is a fun CD of some well-known American Tall Tales. I downloaded it onto my Kindle Fire, and it plays beautifully. My youngest son (age 4) sometimes listens to the stories as he goes to sleep at night. We also like to take them in the car. I'd like to burn the mp3ss to CD but haven't tried that yet. The stories are about Paul Bunyan and Babe the Big Blue Ox, Johnny Appleseed (which was a story I'd never actually heard before), Pecos Bill, and the fastest draw in the West
Jim Weiss encourages kids to read the books that he reads in the recordings. These audio stories, therefore, are a great way to get kids, even the slightly reluctant ones, interested in reading. Making the most of Seeds of Knowledge Singapore’s audio stories. This collection of CDs have some wonderful timeless tales such as Sherlock Holmes, A Tale of Two Cities, The Jungle Book and many other audio stories on 22 other CDs. Listening to the retelling of Sherlock Holmes and A Tale of Two Cities can even inspire kids to read the original books. On the other hand, if you want to introduce them to Shakespeare, then the CD Shakespeare For Children, which includes A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Taming of the Shrew, will serve the purpose.
