Live in Japan is an live album by singer and songwriter Leon Russell. The album was recorded two live tour sessions. The first record section is a 1973 tour show at Budokan in Japan. The second recorded section is from a 1971 tour show in Sam Houston Coliseum. While the album had some of Leon's new hits, like Tight Rope and A Song for You,, the album did not chart in the top 200. His early live album Leon Live peaked at 9 on the US charts

Leon Russell & New Grass Revival's THE LIVE ALBUM (Paradise, PAX-3532) was recorded and videotaped on 5/15/80 at Perkins Palace in Pasadena, CA. Leon on keyboard and lead vocals is supported by Sam Bush (mandolin, fiddle, backing vocals), Courtney Johnson (banjo, backing vocals), John Cowan (bass, backing vocals), and Curtis Burch (guitar, dobro, backing vocals). Also appearing: Bill Kenner (mandolin) and Ambrose Campbell (percussion). The concert often resembles a tent revival meeting, yet there's much variety here. Tremendous live album uniting the unique styles and talents of the legendary Leon Russell and the New Grass Revival. Only Leon could unite the sounds of bluegrass and pop into such an incredible album. 2 people found this helpful.

His early live album Leon Live peaked at 9 on the US charts. The album was first released as a vinyl LP Album by the Shelter Records label. Live in Japan was re-released on CD by Omnivore Recordings in 2011 and again in 2013 with bonus tracks. The new CD releases were after Leon recordings earned six gold records. He received two Grammy awards from seven nominations. Looking Back is a solo album by Leon Russell. The album was released in 1973, shortly after the success of his single song "Tightrope". The album has instrumental tracks that were recorded in the mid-1960s.
