The Dave Clark Five were the first British Invasion band to tour the United States - it was in the SPRING of 1964. The Beatles did not tour the USA until the summer of 1964 - some 3 months later. So in fact the Dave Clark Five weere THE actual first British Invasion band to American audiences. Joseph from New York City, NyI can recall the Dave Clark Five being a very unique and different band from the Beatles even though the press thought that The Dave Clark Five were imitators. They broke up in 1970 and Dave Clark went on to achieve West End success with his musical "Time". I agree that my songfact regarding Dave Clark writing their own songs is an oversimplification. I should have made it clear that Dave Clark wrote their original material on top of being the drummer, manager and (sometimes) lead singer of the band.

A Session with The Dave Clark Five is the debut album by the English pop rock band the Dave Clark Five and was released in the United Kingdom in April 1964 on EMI's Columbia Records (see 1964 in music). It peaked at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart.

Frankly speaking, the Dave Clark Five had a lot of good things going for them. First and foremost, they wrote most of their material themselves - not even the Beatles could boast that around 1963 or 1964. Second, Dave Clark, the band's obvious leader and drummer man, in addition to being the band's own manager, produced their albums all by himself; again, no mean feat for the early Sixties. Nasty rumours claim, however, that he was barely competent on the drums, and that all the playing on studio recordings was done by session players. Understandably, I have almost all of of these "twofers", covering the entire period of the DC5's career that can be called 'important' (1964 to early 1966). Note that, as is usual with all British bands of the time, the DC5 original discography is a complete mess.

The Dave Clark Five were an English rock and roll band formed in Tottenham in 1957. In January 1964 they had their first UK top ten single, "Glad All Over", which knocked the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" off the top of the UK Singles Chart. It peaked at number 6 in the United States in April 1964. Although this was their only UK they topped the US chart in December 1965, with their cover of Bobby Day's "Over And Over"
