Dickson indicates that the violin sonata, with its near-constant motion for the saxophone, was the more difficult of the two works technically, but it is satisfying likewise in purely musical terms: the saxophone adds new small accents that are fundamental to the experience of Glass' music. The concerto is also nicely done: the Royal Philharmonic under Mikel Toms creates the liquid orchestral sound Glass seems to favor in the recordings on his own Orange Mountain Music label
The new Saxophone Concerto by James MacMillan is premiered on 11 April at the Perth Concert Hall, with Australian virtuoso Amy Dickson and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Joseph Swensen. Releases all glass album in celebration of composers 80TH birthday. Launch of dicksons take a breath campaign for schools. Leading classical saxophonist, Amy Dickson, is delighted to announce her brand-new, ground-breaking album of iconic works by Philip Glass in celebration of Glasss 80th birthday on 31st January 2017. Amy Dickson is joined on the album by long-term music partner, pianist Catherine Milledge (tracks 15) together with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (tracks 68), conducted by Mikel Toms. BBC Music Magazine wrote of the concerto: Amy Dicksons arrangement for soprano saxophone actually works better than the original (which isnt too surprising: Glass said he wrote the work for his own sound, not that of the violin).

Born in Sydney in 1982, saxophonist Amy Dickson had her first lesson on the instrument when she was six years old. Growing up with a vast array of musical influences, she made her concerto debut aged 16, playing the Dubois Concerto with Henryk Pisarek and the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra and subsequently became a recipient of the James Fairfax Australian Young Artist of the Year award. Eager to integrate the more classical elements of her background into her work, she released her second album Glass, Tavener, Nyman in 2009. Featuring Dickson's unique interpretations as well as arrangements of Violin Concerto No. 1 by Philip Glass, The Protecting Veil by John Tavener and Michael Nyman's Where the Bee Dances, it was widely praised.
