When I began exploring the Beethoven Piano Concertos some twenty-five years ago, I started with Rudolph Serkin playing with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Ozawa. I poured over these pieces for months and months, even years, and learned the works through the lens of this one recording cycle. It has been 11 years since Evgeny Kissin released his CD of Beethoven concertos with James Levine and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
