Sornay is a folk tatar ensemble. It was established in 1983 in Kazan. The aim of the ensemble is to return tatar musical traditions to the scene. The founder - Rinat Gylyagef - was young musician at that time. He was fond of ancient musical instruments, he wanted to actualize them. Nowadays the ensemble has about hundreds of ancient musical instruments, some of them Rinat Gylyagef reconstructed by himself. He is not only a founder of the ensemble but he is also a very talented teacher, who helps to creative young people. He teaches them to play these ancient instruments

Modern Tatar music includes practically all existing basic musical genres. One of the most outstanding examples of contemporary Tatar music is the rock opera The Wanderer in Bulgar – an amalgamation of Tatar Folk Music, the Tatar Opera tradition and western rock music arrangements with Russian rock prints.

He is not only a founder of the ensemble but he is also a very talented teacher, who helps to creative young people. He teaches them to play these ancient instruments. The ensemble gave a new life to ancient traditions of Tatars. Different aspects of people’s life are shown in the ensemble works. They rise different problems in such works as: «Ana shut suzen», «Ai, dubyr dubaya», «Annagi», «Niga yana yoragem» etc.The ensemble uses more than 30 tatar folk musical instruments, such as dombra, saz, yatagan, gusly, kybyz, sornay etc. The actors of the ensemble are very talented people, they sing, dance, play different instruments. Each of them play about 10 musical instruments. Their repertoire is very rich, each consert has a deep meaning.
They can perform their shows on different scenes.»
