It was renamed In and Out of Focus for the international re-release of the album from 1971 onwards which included their debut single "House of the King".

Focus' debut album is gentler and more low-key and vocal-oriented than their subsequent efforts; fans of Jan Akkerman's pyrotechnics may be disappointed by his relatively restrained presence, but others may be pleasantly surprised to find a more economic group than they remember. A fair collection of progressive rock tunes without a clear focus, the material is dominated by Thijs Van Leer, often introducing classical sensibilities. But at least as often, it sticks with fairly conventional period folk-rock and blues influences, with occasional jazzy shadings.

Focus 3 or Focus III is the third studio album by Dutch rock band Focus, released as a double album in November 1972 on Imperial Records. Recorded after touring in supporting their previous album, Focus II (1971), the album saw the band write extended pieces and is their first with bassist Bert Ruiter in the group's line-up. After the release of the group's debut album Focus Plays Focus (known internationally as In and Out of Focus) in September 1970, Dresden and Cleuver were replaced by Cyril Havermans and Pierre van der Linden, respectively. The new members debuted on the 1971 follow-up Focus II (known internationally as Moving Waves), although Havermans was replaced by Bert Ruiter before its release. van der Linden was also briefly replaced on tour by Akkerman's younger brother Jacob in July 1971, but returned upon its conclusion.

The musicians went their way, but in the mid-80's, three of them met and participated to Kontrast and recorded one of the best Krautrock album of that decade, according to the experts. This album and its intended suite just got a second life by getting a reissue, again on the Cosmic Egg label.
