The album that boosted Focus into at least semi-fame outside of continental Europe, Moving Waves blasts off with their hit single, "Hocus Pocus. Built around a killer guitar hook by Jan Akkerman and a series of solo turns by the band, this instrumental replaced "Wipeout" as a staple of FM radio. The bizarrely hilarious vocal and accordion solos by Thijs van Leer - one of which absurdly concludes with rousing stadium cheers - have to be heard to be believed.

Moving Waves (also known as Focus II) is the second studio album from the Dutch rock band Focus, released in October 1971 on Imperial Records. Following the departure of Martin Dresden and Hans Cleuver in 1970, the band recruited Cyril Havermans on bass and Pierre van der Linden on drums and proceeded to work on new material. The album includes "Hocus Pocus", the group's most successful single, and "Eruption", a 23-minute track based on the opera Euridice by Jacopo Peri.
Moving Waves owes its unique character to the friction between Akkerman and van Leer as the band’s primary songwriters, something that continued to play out in increasingly dramatic fashion on the band’s 1972 double LP, Focus III
