Double Figure is the fourth studio album by British electronic music duo Plaid. It was released on Warp in 2001. It peaked at number 29 on the UK Independent Albums Chart.

This was the first Plaid I ever heard- instantly it reminded me of "Insides"- era Orbital, but gone a little further into the glitchy sound of things. I love this LP. Plaid ‎– Double Figure. Etichetta: Warp Records ‎– WARPCD84. EYEN starts out Plaid's third album for Warp, DOUBLE FIGURE, on the right foot. The guitar work almost makes you think they're going indie, but the sonic density of the electronics reminds you otherwise. Squance" is also dense, chocked full of squiggly synth lines, while "Zamami" is much cleaner and more ambient.

Double Figure strikes gold, however, with songs like "Zala," a frenetic melange of off-kilter string synths and atmospheric melodies, punctuated by brisk snares and cymbals. Eyen" kicks the album off in the right key, building steam from a flamenco guitar sample, wistful strings and a soft, flat bassline. Elements of chaos cautiously creep in on the instrumentation, then wash out the melodies entirely

Inspired to get back to basics after the release of the Trainer retrospective, Plaid returned in 2001 with an LP of tough machine music, closer to the melancholy beatbox style of their mid-'90s singles than the rangy, dynamic sound of 1999's Rest Proof Clockwork. Except for the cycling guitar-like lines on the opener "Eyen," there aren't many instruments on Double Figure

Double Figure is as unpredictable as the mythical creatures on its cover. Its 20 tracks veer between tempos and moods: from laidback interstellar lounge ("Light Rain") to mercurial drum 'n' bass ("Zala") to dark fairy-tale soundscapes ("Sincetta"), with ambient space transmissions in between. Their fourth album still sounds as mysterious as when it was released, and as fun, too; changing up time signatures and stretching sounds to their limits, the IDM pioneers sound positively enchanted by their machines.
