While there are no specific 'rhythms' as such, there are often compositions which move away from randomness. Neither is this a visit to the Death Factory, despite the nasty subject matter it concerns itself with - it's more a visit to the same Dystopia CONTRASTATE took us to once upon a time. Certificate Of The Wound" has a chilling human voice tucked away in the background, and the following droning landscape of "From The Light Into The Darkness" has an indiscernable mantra, the vocal equivalent of a melting human. Look At The World" reminds me of "Connection Machine" by CLOCK DVA - kinda menacing, brooding, full of deadly threat. It's also got a less subtly quality of the first LULL album to it.

The Grand Guignol is a music studio album recording by SCHLOSS TEGAL (Progressive ve Rock) released in 1993 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. The Grand Guignol' resembles sounds that belong in a Pittsburgh Steelworks. Normally I'd love that kind of stuff in that 'SPK', 'Throbbing Gristle' style of approach, but there's very little to grab hold of here. It's grey, dull and bleak, and has a constant use of original human torture shrieks.

SCHLOSS TEGAL take us on a dark journey, through a twisted, bleak, Industrial land of dark, often distorted noises and mysterious structures. While there are no specific 'rhythms' as such, there are often compositions which move away from randomness. Neither is this a visit to the Death Factory, despite the nasty subject matter it concerns itself with - it's more a visit to the same Dystopia CONTRASTATE took us to once upon a time. Only now the country is even darker, more damgerous, where the sense of dread has become a real danger. "Certificate Of The Wound" has a chilling human voice tucked away in the background, and the following droning landscape of "From The Light Into The Darkness" has an indiscernable mantra, the vocal equivalent of a melting human. "Look At The World" reminds me of "Connection Machine" by CLOCK DVA - kinda menacing, brooding, full of deadly threat. It's also got a less subtly quality of the first LULL album to it. Snatches of, presumably genuine Serial Killer interviews are slipped into the mix, slightly muted to give it low-fi aging.Sometimes brash, more often subtle and understated, this is an album which to listen to when relecting on the darkness of the Human Soul. It's not actually Noise with a capital 'N', but the mix is often grizzly, giving it an overall distorted feel. Cold, unemotional, black. A perfect portrait of Murder!Originally reviewed for Soft Watch.

Named after the famous theatre in 19th century Paris, this records concentrates on sexual perversions and murders. Just like death metal, only more in-depth and intelligent. The booklet comes with pictures of mutilated corpses, insights in serial murderers’ heads and Jack the Ripper’s letter to the police of London(signed “From hell”). Surely from hell comes the extreme noise and menacing ambient on the record and it’s hard to listen to the whole of it without becoming depressed or mad. Schloss Tegal also works a lot with samples and incorporates them perfectly in the nightmarish songs. A true classic.
