Jessi Colter was one of the few female artists to emerge from the mid-1970s "outlaw" movement. After meeting her future husband, Colter pursued a career in country music, releasing her first studio LP in 1970, A Country Star Is Born. Diamond in the Rough (1976) peaked at N. on the Country chart and yielded the hits 'I Thought I Heard You Calling My Name' (N. 9 Country) and 'You Hung the Moon (Didn't You Waylon?)'. Also includes the slow blues 'Diamond in the Rough', the ballad 'Would You Leave Now' and two rollicking Beatles numbers. Another fine collection from the Raven label, reissuing two of Jessi Colter's 1970s albums. I'd never heard either album in its entirety before getting this single CD collection. Of course I HAD heard several of these songs back when they were first released, but I never really liked the hit single "I'm Not Lisa" very much. I thought the followup hit, "What's Happened to Blue Eyes", was much better, and one of the highlights of the album.
