Tracks 1-16 were previously released on the LP De Illusionist (1983) Tracks 17-25 are the soundtrack from the film ‘Kkkomediant’, which was previously used in the theatre performance of ‘De Bedevaart’ by Freek de Jonge and previously released on the LP Freek de Jonge - De Bedevaart (De Muziek) (1985).
This disc provides soundtrack material for two films featuring the Dutch actor Freek de Jonge and, while showing clearly where Breuker draws much inspiration, it is quite enjoyable on its own terms. The main theme from De Illusionist is one of the most charming that he ever composed - even as it bows deeply in the direction of Ennio Morricone - and it resurfaces in various guises throughout the work. The rare (for Breuker) use of guitar and bass guitar also evokes the Italian master.

The other difficulty is in tracking the musical development of Willem Breuker. The settings Breuker employs in his soundtrack work vary considerably from his work with his own band, the Kollektief. Many members of the group, past, present, and future, play on these sides, but the settings vary.
