The Berlin Philharmonic (German: Berliner Philharmoniker) is a German orchestra based in Berlin. It is traditionally ranked as being in the top handful of orchestras in the world, distinguished amongst peers for its virtuosic and compelling sound. The orchestra’s history has always been tied up with its chief conductors, many of whom have been authoritative and controversial characters, such as Wilhelm Furtwängler and Herbert von Karajan.
Antonín Dvořák, 17 years his junior, continued along Smetana’s musical path, but in his often sombre and moody Seventh Symphony, composed for England, Dvořák allows himself few reminiscences of the Bohemian idiom. Facets of Czech Music. Works by Bedřich Smetana, Bohuslav Martinů and Antonín Dvořák. Má vlast by Bedřich Smetana. He also has return engagements with, among others, the Philharmonia Orchestra London, the NDR Sinfonieorchester, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra Washington. Krzysztof Urbański holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Music (Orchestral Conducting) at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. By Bedřich Smetana - Berlin State Opera Orchestra & Erich Kleiber. By Richard Strauss - Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin State Opera Orchestra, Hahn, Berger, Maria Reining, Lisa Della Casa, Hilde Gueden, Kurt Boehme, Ursuleac & Lemnitz. Tausend Und Eine Nacht (Indigo Und Die 40 Rauber): Launisches Gluck. The orchestra's series remained limited and highly conservative by comparison with those of the Berlin Philharmonic Society (founded 1826 and organized as a professional orchestra in 1882) until conductor Felix Weingartner, appointed to head the Königliche Kapelle in 1892, made it a leading part of the city's musical life. Richard Strauss was its music director from 1908 to 1920. As part of the lively musical scene in Berlin in the 1920s it now became associated with modern music.
Orchestra: Berlin Staatskapelle, Berlin Schauspielhaus Orchestra, Odeon Opera Orchestra, Berlin State Opera Orchestra, Odeon Chamber Orchestra, et a. This 2 CD set gives a rather complete overview of Richard Tauber's recordings for voice and orchestra made between 1919 and 1946. I assume that most listeners will be attracted to only one of the two CDs, as the musical material contained in the discs aims at different audiences
