25 O'Clock is the debut record by English rock band the Dukes of Stratosphear and the eighth studio album by XTC, released on April Fools Day 1985 through Virgin Records. It was publicised as a long-lost collection of recordings by a late 1960s group, but actually consisted of new tracks recorded by Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding, and Dave Gregory of XTC with Gregory's brother Ian.

Produced by The Dukes of Stratosphear & John Leckie. Of 25 o'clock, that's when you're going to be mine 25 o'clock, we'll be together 'til the end of time At 25 o'clock. The ticking seconds hear them call My spell of hours will make you fall Each timer that I break will halt the flowing sands Each timer that I break will put you in my hands. At 25 o'clock, that's when you're going to be mine 25 o'clock, we'll be together 'til the end of time At 25 o'clock. Each watch I smash apart, just adding to my power Each watch I smash apart, just bringing near the hour.

The Dukes of Stratosphear were an English rock band formed in 1984 by Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding, Dave Gregory, and Ian Gregory. Modeled after psychedelic pop groups from the 1960s, the Dukes were initially publicised by Virgin Records as a mysterious new act, but were actually an XTC spin-off band. They recorded only two albums: 25 O'Clock (1985) and Psonic Psunspot (1987) The Dukes of Stratosphear. Released exclusively in Britain on April Fool's Day 1985, the mini-album 25 O'Clock was presented as a long-lost collection of recordings by a late 1960s group. Virgin Records publicised the Dukes as a mysterious new act, and when asked about the album in interviews, XTC initially denied having any involvement. A music video set to.

They turned into the Dukes of Stratosphear and cut the EP 25 O'Clock, a brilliant, clever distillation of the sounds of 1967, filled with knowing allusions and outright thievery from psychedelic classics both popular and well-known

The Dukes of Stratosphear released 'Psonic Psunspot,' their first – and last – full-length album, in August 1987. The Dukes of Stratosphear were more than an endlessly fun XTC offshoot band. Their guileless psychedelic asides were a critical bridge between the difficult sessions for 1986's Skylarking and XTC's sun-filled triumph on 1989's Oranges and Lemons. It's within the realms of possibility that XTC would not have survived beyond the '80s without the cathartic effect this fun side-project engendered," David Gregory later said. That so many others found it amusing and entertaining simply adds to the joy we derived from its creation

The Dukes of Stratosphear was a pseudonym used by the 80’s new wave band XTC, as an outlet to release heavily 60’s inspired psychedelic rock that would sound completely out of place on a normal XTC album. After the success of their first EP, 1985’s 25 O’Clock, a full length album, Psonic Psunspot was released in 1987. The same year both were put together into a compilation album, Chips from the Chocolate Fireball.
