The Copper Family are a family of singers of traditional, unaccompanied English folk song. Originally from Rottingdean, near Brighton, Sussex, England, the nucleus of the family now live in the neighbouring village of Peacehaven Contents. The Copper Family have a tradition of the unaccompanied singing of traditional local songs that has been passed down through several generations. In 1898, they came to the attention of Kate Lee (. 904), one of the founders of the Folk Song Society (later the English Folk Dance and Song Society). Coppersongs: A Living Tradition (English Folk Dance & Song Society LP, 1987). Coppersongs 2 (CD, 1995). Coppersongs 3: The Legacy Continues (CD, 1998?)

Redirected from The Copper Family). The Copper Family are a family of singers of traditional, unaccompanied English folk song. Originally from Rottingdean, near Brighton, Sussex, England, the nucleus of the family now live in the neighbouring village of Peacehaven. They have been described as "the first family of English roots music, vital to its history and a frame of reference for the new generation that is reviving a tradition of earthy, hard edged story based music".

Coppersongs 3 The Legacy Continues The Copper Family. Coppersongs CD3 (CD, UK, October 1998, reissued June 2004). Recorded by Piers Bishop in Chalvington Church and Curls Farmhouse, Ripe, East Sussex; Notes by Bob Copper; Design by Jon Dudley; Photograps by Adrian Turner.

What annoys me is that somebody got hold of a family photograph. The story is almost entirely fiction. Our last name is Copper, not Cooper.

Publisher: Coppersongs (2015). A reprint of the original 1995 songbook to coincide with Bob Copper's Centenary. Contains the words and music to 65 Copper Family songs. Augmented by Bob's own illustrations, archive photographs and introduction to the background of the songs by Bob Copper. Hand drawn musical notation by Bob Copper.

For at least seven generations, the Copper family of Rottingdean in Sussex have been custodians of English folk culture, and they have preserved a rare southern-English style of harmony singing. In the process, they became folk-scene celebrities - thanks largely to the work of Bob Copper, who compiled their repertoire of songs. The latest family band, Young Coppers, consists of six of his grandchildren. For their debut album, they stick to the old traditions, mixing solo unaccompanied singing with sturdy harmony work.

Copper is a chemical element with the symbol Cu (from Latin: cuprum) and atomic number 29. It is a soft, malleable, and ductile metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. A freshly exposed surface of pure copper has a pinkish-orange color.
