Escape from New York is a 1981 American dystopian science-fiction,action film co-written, co-scored and directed by John Carpenter. The film is set in what was then the near-future year of 1997, in a crime-ridden United States that has converted Manhattan Island in New York City into the country's maximum-security prison.

Escape from New York is the long-awaited debut album of New York hip-hop group Beast Coast, released on May 24th, 2019. Members of the group include the Flatbush Zombies, the Underachievers and several members of the Pro Era Collective. The title of the project references the 1981 science-fiction classic Escape from New York. In the movie, the entire island of Manhattan is converted to a gigantic maximum-security prison.
