Not to diminish things they DO teach in school, but the things you listed are SUPER SUPER important and will absolutely be used in life (banking? taxes? yes!). It’s a shame they’ll probably never teach these kinds of things, but they really should. The social media one is really interesting, too.

By the time you're 30, you'll be hit with the crushing truth of just how much the grownups didn't teach you when you were in school. And, while liberals and conservatives haggle over whether public schools need more funding or more lessons on the Ten Commandments, we think all can agree there are some very basic, useful things that our children really, really should know. Young ladies, you're in your teens now and already you have no doubt run into some guys who are being suspiciously nice to you. Likely you have figured out that in many cases, this has nothing to do with them being nice guys and everything to do with them desperately wanting you to touch their boner.

Old School, New School. This is a very important subject. The author made reference to quite a few things that are not taught in school. I was fortunate, back in the "old days" most of the necessities like writing a check, were taught in school. Many other important things were taught as well: How to make change, how to write cursive, how to read, write, do multiplication tables from memory, and spell words correctly, have an actual conversation with family and friends seated around the dinner ta Old School, New School. This is a very important subject Welcome back.

To clarify, we don’t mean the law allowed them to beat slaves. The law required it. Most horrifically, as a sort of coming of age holiday, there was an occasion every year where young Spartan men would sneak around and murder as many slaves as they could. This was the first raid led by a woman during the Civil War, and Tubman liberated 10 times the number of slaves she had freed in 10 years on the Underground Railroad. 24. Joined at the Sternum. Two Siam natives, Chang and Eng Bunker, were American twins joined at the sternum. In 1839, they bought 110 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and settled down.

I read books like What They Don't Teach You At Harvard Business School, and after graduating, surrounded myself with as many entrepreneurs as possible. It didn't matter if they were selling technology, clothing, or a service. I wanted to know how they sold their craft, and how they handled their business.

Our school system doesn’t feel that this is worth teaching apparently, but call me crazy, I think it’s important (I’m probably preaching to the choir on LifeHack. Robert Kiyosaki is fond of saying that the rich teach their children how to read financial statements and the poor do not. He is right. Schools have never been very good at teaching people how to get rich, probably in no small part because professors are generally poor and wouldn’t know how to teach it. Advertising. We need to figure out how to do scary things that would be good for us, break bad habits, how to let go of bad things in the past, etc. There is a lot to learn here!

Most kid don't learn these real-world skills in the classroom, and they're way more important than algebra. Most of my college prerequisite classes were things I learned in high school, yet no one asked if I knew how to understand and manage my emotions before unleashing me into the professional world. No one taught me about the student loans I so freely signed, beyond, Do it! It’ll be fine! But thank heavens for that Greek Literature class, amirite? Here are 15 life skills that kids typically aren’t learning in school, and yet they’ll definitely need to know: 1. Basic financial management.
