It wasn't until being paired with a sympathetic producer, Al DeLory, that Campbell found his groove. He first hit with "Gentle on My Mind," a John Hartford tune that was a minor success upon its first release in 1967. That was followed by Jimmy Webb's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," Campbell's breakthrough, and continued with "I Wanna Live," "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife," and perhaps Campbell's most fully realized song, the Webb-written "Wichita Lineman.

One of the bonus tracks, "Quits", is a d song that was recorded during the original Rhinestone Cowboy studio sessions. Written by Danny O'Keefe, it is a heartbreaking song masterfully sung by the one and only Glen Campbell at a major pinnacle in his career. Joe Marchese (The Second Disc) describes "Quits" as: "A haunting elegy to a romance, it may have been too downbeat for the original album, but.

Early on in Rhinestone Cowboy, Glen Campbell sings that he's making his "comeback," a sentiment that can't help but seem to carry an autobiographical heft. While it is true that he was hardly off the charts in the early '70s, the quality of his music was a little inconsistent; the singles were often good, but his albums were burdened with schlock and erratic in quality
