California Finally is a propulsive, but understated, and draws more directly from canon psych rock, and The Creature is a playful slow-dance about a demon or phantom emerging from the wall and taking over your body. It's a song you're meant to at least giggle at a little, something that is made evident in La Luz's excellent music videos. That's when this album really succeeds, when that sense of humor comes through.

The landlocked Seattle quartet La Luz certainly have spent their time with the works of Dick Dale and the Ventures, and it shows on their debut album It's Alive.
