The last great Kraftwerk album, Computer World captured the band right at the moment when its pioneering approach fully broke through in popular music, thanks to the rise of synth pop, hip-hop, and electro. As Arthur Baker sampled "Trans-Europe Express" for "Planet Rock" and disciples like Depeche Mode, OMD, and Gary Numan scored major hits, Computer World demonstrated that the old masters still had some last tricks up their collective sleeves.

Computer World is the eighth studio album by electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk. It was released on May 10, 1981. A German version of the album entitled Computerwelt was also released, continuing the band’s string of bilingual album releases. The album’s concept centers around computers and their increasingly influential role on modern day society. The lyrics explore a wide range of themes related to technology, from government data collection to the growing isolation in an interconnected technological world.

With this album, Kraftwerk predicted in 1981 what would happen thirty years after. There, around 1979 or 1980, Ralf and Florian had their very first trip into our future
