I hear stories from the chamber How Christ was born into a manger And like some ragged stranger Died upon the cross And might I say It seems so fitting in its way He was a carpenter by trade Or at least that's what I'm told. Like my good hand I tatooed . across it's brother's fist That filthy five! They did nothing to challenge or resist. Interpret signs and catalogue A blackened tooth, a scarlet fog. The walls are bad, black, bottom kind. They are sick breath at my hind They are sick breath at my hind They are sick breath at my hind They are sick breath gathering at my hind. I hear stories from the chamber How Christ was born into a manger And like some ragged stranger Died upon the cross And might I say it seems so fitting in it's way He was a carpenter by trade Or at least that's what I'm told.

Nick Cave and his band perform a set drawn from their latest album Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! and a 20-year repertoire including The Mercy Seat, Red Righ Hand and Deanna. By turns menacing and hilarious, Cave comes on stage like a Southern preacher in the festooned, converted church and soon has the appreciative crowd hanging off his every word, while the Bad Seeds are at the top of their game behind him. All the things we love, we lose, Nick Cave sings on Anthrocene, a dark and jazzy rumination on loss from Skeleton Tree, his captivating 16th album with backing band the Bad Seeds. The song as a whole is so understated and loose that the earnestness of his lyrics catch you by surprise. Here is the dean of literary gothic song-craft, a master of wordplay, symbolism and irony, baring his soul like never before. Although Cave still writes safely from the perspective of characters on Skeleton Tree‘s eight songs, the grief on each track is undeniably and uniquely his own. Last summer, while Cave was writing the record, one of his twin sons, Arthur, age 15, fell off a cliff to his death in Brighton, England.
US Radio session samples The Bad Seeds’ infinite variety. The stage is small, the set short, but as ever, The Bad Seeds contain multitudes. Listen to tracks from the album on YouTube starting with Wide Lovely Eyes:. and here’s the album trailer: Victoria Segal.
At the heart of Push the Sky Away is a naturalism and warmth that makes it the most subtly beautiful of all the Bad Seeds albums. The contemporary settings of myths, and the cultural references that have time-stamped Nick’s songs of the twenty-first century mist lightly through details drawn from the life he observed around his seaside home, through the tall windows on the album’s mysterious and ambiguous cover. The songs on this album took form in a modest notebook with shellac covers over the course of almost a year
