De La Soul Is Dead is the second studio album by American hip-hop group De La Soul, released on May 14, 1991. The album was produced by Prince Paul, whose work on 3 Feet High and Rising was highly praised by music critics. The album's cover refers to the death of the ".
De La Soul’s second album, De La Soul Is Dead (1991) was a much more mature album. It featured a wealth of material that criticized the violent, careless direction that hip hop was heading in at the time, though it still managed to maintain a light, absurd sense of humor. The cover of the album features a broken daisy flower pot, symbolizing the death of the .
Producer – De La Soul, Prince Paul. Continuity error: Track B3 ("Skit 3") mentions the song "Who Do U Worship?", though that song only exists on CD versions of "De La Soul Is Dead". All boring tracks recorded at Calliope Productions Mixed at Battery Studios and at Island Media Mastered at Hit Factory, New York.
De La Soul released its long-awaited, crowd-funded album, And the Anonymous Nobody in August, which they discussed in the documentary as well. It includes songs that go on for more than five minutes and don’t feature lyrics until the end of the tune. At the end of the day, those 11,000 people are, like – you know, they saved our lives, Dave contends
De La Soul Is Dead is a long album, but packed with brilliance, musically and lyrically. A Roller Skating Jam Named ‘Saturdays', Bitties In The BK Lounge, Afro Connections At A Hi 5, Keepin’ The Faith, My Brother’s A Basehead, Ring Ring Ring and the monumental Millie Pulled A Pistol On Santa, the album is literally packed with awesome songs. A marked change in style and feel to their equally brilliant debut 3 Feet High & Rising, De La Soul Is Dead showed a darker and more contemplative side of De La Soul
De La Soul's second album, originally released in 1991, was initially received poorly by the press and their fans due to its immediate rejection of the 'daisy-age' image created by their debut LP. In the years since, however, it has come to be accepted as a stone classic that may even surpass the feel-good jams of Three Feet High And Rising with its expansive scope and more diverse subject matter (drug addiction, incest, poseurs, in addition to the more expected, light-hearted material). 3. Talkin' Bout Hey Love. 5. Johnny's Dead AKA Vincent Mason (Live from the BK Lounge). 6. A Roller Skating Jam Named "Saturdays". 7. WRMS' Dedication to the Bitty.
De La Soul (/ˌdeɪ lɑː ˈ-/) is an American hip hop trio formed in 1987 in the Amityville area of Long Island, New York. They are best known for their eclectic sampling, quirky lyrics, and their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap and alternative hip hop subgenres. The members are Posdnuos, Trugoy and Maseo. The three formed the group in high school and caught the attention of producer Prince Paul with a demo tape of the song "Plug Tunin'"
