The KLF (also known as the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, The JAMs, the Timelords and other names) are a British electronic band started in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Beginning in 1987, Bill Drummond (alias King Boy D) and Jimmy Cauty (alias Rockman Rock) released hip hop-inspired and sample-heavy records as the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, and on one occasion (the British number one hit single "Doctorin' the Tardis") as the Timelords

However, to show that they have a sense of humor about it all, Drummond and Caulty put a crawl at the end of the video that says, The North will rise again. One listen to this, and you’ll think the North has already formed an army, made this their fight song, and are knocking on your door, torches and pitchforks in hand. Part 2 sounds like a lost track from Dave Clarke's RED series. It has a massive, beating kick drum, backwards edits and analog synth sequences and stabs. Clarke's records are sighted as an influence by most of the harder techno producers who came after him. Since this pre-dated the REDs by several years, it really shows how ahead of their time these guys were. Unbelievable. I can only assume they did this production in a big studio on an SSL mixing board, like they recommend in "The Manual", and it pays off in how tight it sounds.

"The JAMS going underground....from the future"The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu's album "The Black Room" wasn't released, surprisingly, afterhaving been mentioned both in a documentary on MTV, and on the single from it, "It's Grim Up North". Not unlike when The KLF released "Kylie Said To Jason" in 1989. The album it was taken from even had itsformats catalogue numbers advertised on it, but it wasn't released.Back then the reason was the KLF single "flopped". But "It's Grim Up North" was a hit. At least in the UK.Was the album lost like the "Assassin" DAT by The Orb? (story on the sleeve of the "Assassin" single by The Orb)"It's Grim Up North" was released October 28th 1991 on 7"/12"/Cassette. On CD5" a week later. It was a remake of the original version released in December 1990, which was only released on 1-sided grey vinyl 12-inch'es limited to 350 copies. Included with the '90 release was an info sheet with suggested titles, most likely from "The Black Room".There was stories on the internet about a bootleg Extreme Noise Terror album with thrash metal cover versions of "The Black Room" titles, such as "Terminator 10 & The Black Room", and "38".Also in October '91, in U.S. clubs only, "America: What Time Is Love?" by The KLF was released on Arista Records, featuring ex-Deep Purple vocalist Glenn Hughes. It wasn't released worldwide until 4 months later. The KLF released "Justified & Ancient" in November, a remake with lead vocals by country singer Tammy Wynette. It reached No. 1 in 18 countries. After that The JAMS and The KLF disappeared.
