David Sylvian (born David Alan Batt, 23 February 1958) is an English singer-songwriter and musician who came to prominence in the late 1970s as frontman of the band Japan. The band's androgynous look and increasingly electronic sound made them an important influence on the UK's early-1980s New Romantic scene. Following their breakup, Sylvian embarked on a solo career with his debut album Brilliant Trees (1984)
David Sylvian's 2003 solo album, his first since Dead Bees On a Cake. It was the debut release for his own Samadhi Sound label. David set aside a month to write and record the album while taking a break from the project that he and his brother, Steve Jansen, are currently working on. He has created an impromptu suite of songs for guitar, electronics and voice. The compositions were crafted from improvisational sessions captured live in the studio. Working almost entirely alone David has created an emotionally raw, minimal work, of immediacy and stark beauty
David Sylvian is featuring on the track Life, Life, performing the poem ‘And This I Dreamt, And This I Dream’, by Arseny Tarkowsky (from the bundle Life, Life). David performing ‘From An Old Notebook’ from Life, Life was played live by Sakamoto (David with poem prerecorded) at the Concert For Japan (2011). Artwork: From pitchfork. com: Ryuichi Sakamoto has announced a new studio album, async, out April 28 via Milan. It’s the Japanese composer’s first studio album since 2012’s Three, with Jaques Morelenbaum and Judy Kang, and his first solo album in 8 years
David Sylvian -Implausible Beauty. Sylvian is depicted in hotel rooms, small villages, graveyards, landscapes rural, exotic, and forbidding, before finally reaching a point of change, of grace, in the darkened rooms of Konya and Istanbul. Interspersed with poems and quotations, this is a tantalising and evocative glimpse of an intensely private life at a pivotal point in its evolution. David and I were frequently like planets revolving around one another and, in some sense, this gravitational pull continues to this da. – yuka fujii.

Studio Album, released in 1993. Songs, Tracks Listing. 1. God's Monkey (5:01) 2. Jean The Birdman (4:10) 3. Firepower (10:27) 4. Brightness Falls (6:06) 5. 20th Century Dreaming (A Shaman's Song) (11:53) 6. Darshan (The Road To Graceland) (17:18) 7. Bringing Down The Light (8:31). This is a good album that is worth checking out. My only minor complaint is on the longer songs that just play the same beat and melody far too long, it reminds me of some of the psychedelic bands that jam on and on, only not nearly as good. King Crimson in ambient mode?
