The band's sixth studio album was recorded from late 2007 until early 2008, and was released in September 2008. It was the first Mogwai album not to feature vocals, and was also the first to be self-produced by the band; the album was recorded by Andy Miller at Chem19 Studios in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, and mixed by Gareth Jones at Castle of Doom Studios in Glasgow. The album spawned an EP, Batcat, featuring the title track from the album. An EP titled Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1. on Rock Action was released on 1 December 2014 featuring three new tracks from the Rave Tapes sessions, along with three remixes of tracks from that album by Blanck Mass, Pye Corner Audio and Nils Frahm

Kin is an original soundtrack album by Scottish post-rock band Mogwai, released on 31 August 2018 on Rock Action Records in the UK and Europe, and Temporary Residence Limited in the United States. Two tracks "Donuts" and "We're Not Done (End Title)" were released ahead of the album. The music was composed for Kin, the 2018 American science fiction action film directed by Jonathan and Josh Baker and written by Daniel Casey.

More varied and accommodating of noisy crescendos than Mogwai's other major 1999 release, Come On Die Young, for those who weren't fond of that album's extremely subdued sound the EP+6 may provide a welcome substitute - for me, I find it complements the other disc wonderfully.

EP is Mogwai's third EP. It features four tracks, "Stanley Kubrick" (recorded at Sub Station Studio in Cowdenbeath, Scotland and produced by Michael Brennan J. assisted by Kevin Lynch), "Christmas Song", "Burn Girl Prom Queen", and "Rage:Man" (all recorded at CaVa Studios in Glasgow, Scotland, and also produced by Michael Brennan J. assisted by Tony Doogan and Willie Deans).
