The Concert in Central Park, released in February 1982 on Warner Bros. Records, is the first live album by American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. It was recorded in September 1981 at a free benefit concert in Central Park, New York City, where the pair performed in front of more than 500,000 people. Proceeds went toward the redevelopment and maintenance of the park, which had deteriorated due to lack of municipal funding.
Central Park, New York City, NY. Submit Corrections. Poignant Laid-Back/Mellow Literate Organic Precious Soothing. Simon & Garfunkel. The Concert in Central Park.
The most comprehensive 12" vinyl Simon & Garfunkel anthology ever assembled, The Complete Columbia Albums Collection includes the duo's five Columbia Records studio masterpieces (first released between 1964 and 1970) as well as Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits, their all-time best-selling title. Originally released in June 1972, two years after the duo split up, Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits-a mix of 10 studio tracks (nine of them singles) and four (then) previously unreleased live recordings-sold more than 14 million copies in the US alone. This album wonderfully captures the excitement and electricity of that amazing concert. What I very much enjoy is seeing Simon and Garfunkel perform together in concert, particularly since I was never able to see them perform live myself. The Central Park Concert took place in 1981 when they were both almost 40 years old.
Continuous Play - Full Album - This is the first live album by the group. It was recorded in September of 1981 at a free benefit concert in Central Park, New York City, where the pair performed in front of more than 500,000 people. 6 months ago. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, in harmony, together, in my opinion, the best two part harmony to ever come from the North American continent. Absolutely the Greatest.
Simon and Garfunkel‘s 1981 Concert in Central Park is being released on double 180g vinyl and as a CD+DVD combo pack next month. The concert drew more than half a million fans to New York’s Central Park and was originally released as a double album for Warner Bros. The recording has been remastered from the original analogue tapes for these new releases. In fact unlike the vinyl record, the CD+DVD isn’t getting an official release outside the US (perhaps in part because the DVD was included in 2007’s good value The Collection box set)
